How Do I Know if I Need Calibration?
Most new vehicles have ADAS features. As cars become more advanced, manufacturers are quickly moving these features into less expensive models. You will most likely require calibration when your windshield is replaced if your car has a camera in the windshield or any of the following features:

Can I Decline a Calibration?
If the system is not calibrated correctly, safety features may not work as intended. If the cameras/radars/lasers on the vehicle are off by even a few millimetres they may not give accurate readings and the system may not do its job in an emergency.
GlassMasters will not replace a windshield on a vehicle with an ADAS system in the windshield without performing the calibration.

What Is ADAS Calibration, and Do I Need It After Windshield Replacement?
Yes. If your vehicle has a windshield-mounted camera or Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), calibration is typically required after a windshield replacement. Calibration ensures safety features such as Lane Keep Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Automatic Emergency Braking, and Collision Warning continue to operate according to the vehicle manufacturer's specifications.
ADAS stands for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems. Many modern vehicles use cameras mounted to the windshield to monitor the road and assist the driver. These systems can include:
- Lane Departure Warning (LDW)
- Lane Keep Assist (LKA)
- Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)

Although the camera may only move by a fraction of a millimetre during windshield replacement, that small change can significantly affect how the system interprets distances, lane markings, and surrounding traffic. For this reason, many vehicle manufacturers require the camera to be recalibrated whenever the windshield is replaced.
Types of ADAS Calibration
The calibration procedure depends on the vehicle manufacturer and the specific driver assistance systems installed.
Static Calibration
Static calibration is performed inside the shop using manufacturer-approved targets positioned at precise distances and angles in front of the vehicle. Specialized diagnostic equipment communicates with the vehicle and recalibrates the camera so it accurately understands its position relative to the vehicle.
Dynamic Calibration
Dynamic calibration is completed by driving the vehicle under manufacturer-specified conditions. The camera uses lane markings, road features, and surrounding traffic to learn its position and verify proper operation. Manufacturers specify factors such as road type, weather conditions, driving speed, and distance travelled.
Dual (Static and Dynamic) Calibration
Some vehicles require both procedures. A static calibration is completed first, followed by a dynamic calibration drive. Honda and Acura vehicles commonly require dual calibration, although other manufacturers may also specify this process.
